Confined Space Training
Confined space training should be developed and implemented to manage risks associated with working in confined spaces.
OSHA’s standard for confined spaces is detailed in Title 29 Code of Federal Regulations Part 1910.146 “Permit-Required Confined Spaces”. This is effective April 15 1993 and contains the requirements for practices and procedures to protect employees from the hazards of entry into permit-required confined spaces. Employers are required to develop a written confined space entry permit program as well as providing Confined Space Training for their employees.
Course objectives of confined space training include but not limited to:
- Identify the types of confined space areas – permit-required and non-permit spaces;
- Define each term of these spaces;
- Identification of hazards found in confined spaces – atmospheric hazards and physical hazards;
- Identification of the roles and responsibilities of various personnel defined by OSHA;
- Understanding basic emergency activities;
